Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Jser is not covered by your warranty. Ensure that the work surface is flat and clean to prevent the computer cover from being scratched.
Turn off your computer see Turning Off Your Computer. To disconnect a network cable, first unplug the cable from your computer and then unplug it from the network wall jack. Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide. The computer recognizes most cards and automatically loads the appropriate device driver.
If the configuration program tells you to load the manufacturer’s drivers, use the floppy disk or CD that manuxl with the PC Card. Hold the card with its orientation symbol pointing into the slot and the top side of the card facing up.
The msnual may need to be in the m300 position before you insert the card. A processor module 4m300 is not properly seated can result in an intermittent connection or permanent damage to the processor and ZIF socket.
Align the pin-1 corner of the processor module so that it points to the triangle on the ZIF socket, and insert the processor module into the ZIF socket. When the processor module is correctly seated, all four corners are aligned at the same height.
From the del of the computer, remove the two M2. Turn the computer top-side up and open the display. Lift the display assembly out of the computer base. Starting from the sides of the display panel, use your fingers to separate the bezel from the top cover and lift the bezel away from the top cover.
Remove the four M2 x 3-mm screws from the left display-panel side bracket and lift away the bracket. When installing this card, ensure that the two antenna cables are not under the card. The antenna cables are designed to lie across the top of the FCM card and into the protective sleeve. Installing the card on top of these antenna cables may cause damage to your computer.
Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in, the main battery is properly installed, and a network cable is attached. Turn on the computer. Locate the latest BIOS update file for your computer at support. Click Download Now to download the file.
If you are installing a hard drive from a source other than Dell, you need to install an operating system, drivers, and utilities on the new hard drive. To replace the hard drive in the hard drive bay: Slide the new hard drive into the bay and into the connector until it is fully seated. Replace the two M3 x 3-mm hard drive screws. If you remove your original memory modules from the computer during a memory upgrade, keep them separate from any new modules that you may have, even if you purchased the new modules from Dell.
If possible, do not pair an original memory module with a new memory module. Replace the hinge cover Hinge Cover. Insert the battery into the battery bay, or connect the AC adapter to your computer and an electrical outlet. As the computer boots, it detects the additional memory and automatically updates the system configuration information.
If the memory module is not installed properly, the computer may not boot properly. No error message indicates this failure.

Ground yourself and install the new memory module: Align the notch in the module edge connector with the tab in the connector slot. WLAN card metal securing brackets 2 c. Lift the card out of its connector.
The connectors are keyed to ensure correct insertion. If you feel resistance, check the connectors and realign the card. The WLAN card may have two or three connectors, depending on the type of card you ordered. WWAN card metal securing brackets 2 c. To avoid damaging the Mobile Broadband card, never place cables on top of or under the card.
Before you begin the following procedure, see the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide. When replacing the palm rest, ensure the cable for the internal card with Bluetooth wireless technology is properly placed on top of the palm rest to avoid damaging the cable. Lift the system board out and away from the base. Perform all the steps in Removing the System Board in reverse order.
